Always freeze your gel packs for at least 14 hours in a domestic freezer before use. Keep your cooled medical bag closed unless accessing medication, and never place medication in direct contact with the frozen gel pack—always ensure the gel pack is secured in the bag’s pocket.
Handle cold packs with care, especially when frozen, as the plastic can become brittle and may crack unnoticed. If damaged, the gel could leak as the pack thaws. Freeze flat on a shelf or in a container for protection.
